We have retired near the idyllic seaside resort area of St. Andrews-By-The-Sea in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. From this very historic location, we have easy access to the USA, Quebec and Ontario. The Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the world, and the fresh scent of the sea air is rejuvenating for mind, body and soul.
From our 120 year old farmhouse we have quick access to the ocean and New Brunswick Trail, and it is heaven to us and our hounds. Many years ago our friends affectionately nicknamed our home Camp RunAmok. Home is always a busy place where friends and their dogs play, relax by the pool, and now we can go whale watching! Lobster boil anyone? Perhaps strolling the beach with us for sea glass and other ocean treasures? We anticipate a lot of company and years of new adventures in this postcard setting.
Please come in and have a look at our wonderful companions. We also encourage anyone interested in our breeds to visit us and meet our dogs, and see the environment in which we live and raise our litters.
Laurie is a 20 year member in good standing in the Canadian Kennel Club, Great Lakes Whippet Club, and for many years a member of the American Whippet Club. Laurie is currently a past executive of the National Whippet Club of Canada, current Secretary and show chair for the GLWC, and past director of the Belleville Kennel & Obedience Club.
We support and abide by the code of ethics and by-laws of our clubs and our breed rescue organizations. We have actively participated for many years in clubs in various ways such as holding executive positions, hosting picnics on our property, assisting and participating in events, chairing or co-chairing dog shows, including a World Congress. Laurie has also been the show chair for numerous Ridgeback and Whippet Club regional and National specialties, and a highlight being the co chair of a World Congress specialty show for Rhodesian Ridgebacks. She has always had a preference for specialty shows above all else driving countless miles to participate and see the current breeding stock exhibited at these specialty shows and interact with like minded peers in the breeding community. We have contributed to club newsletters, designed club websites, rehomed and assisted placing dogs in need for rescue and breeders in need...the list goes on. We truly enjoy being a part of our breed community and making a contribution over the last 20 years as we will be winding down to final retirement in the coming years. With that in mind, Laurie is currently mentoring a few enthusiastic younger people interested in the dog fancy and intends to continue to pursue her judging license.
Our hounds have the most recent annual health clearances pre-requisites to breeding set out by the Whippet Health Foundation and Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) prior to breeding and beyond. These yearly health certifications provide data for future, and guidance in our breeding decisions. We offer a 6 year written guarantee for the conditions we can test for and lifetime support. We feel strongly that we are guardians of our breeds and expect the same level of commitment from our clients, many of whom over the years have become our extended Vrymeer family.
We began our journey in 2000, finding a mentor in Rhodesians in Diane Waters of Wheatenridge Kennel. We took time to learn our breeds and participate in breed clubs before adding our foundation dogs and eventually having our first litters. Initially breeding Rhodesians, as time went on Whippets evolved into our primary breed. Our whippet foundation came from Terry Taft's Baccarat kennel, from litters he co=bred with Wheatenridge and Cariad kennels.
For those wondering about Wheatenridge Kennel, a few years ago Diane Waters decided that after nearly 40 years of breeding and raising Rhodesian Ridgebacks and nearly 20 years breeding Whippets, it was time to retire from active breeding. Diane continues to be involved in the co-ownership and breeding of Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Whippets with us. Diane also decided to let her personal website lapse however she wished to remain available to all her previous friends and clients. We have added a page on our website for Wheatenridge updates, and a photo gallery. Diane remains active in the world of purebred dogs, including her breed clubs. Diane's grand-daughter Danielle was our junior handler and we all had a lot of fun as Danielle grew up attending specialties both sides of the border and have made many great memories over the years.
If you would like to reach Diane, her contact information is on the Wheatenridge Kennel page, she would love to hear from you.
Here at Vrymeer we can be reached by email at lauric99@hotmail.com or call or text 613-478-1402. We look forward to hearing from you.
